Giger's biomechanical style won him the place as concept artist for the extraterrestrial elements of Ridley Scott's Alien, for which he would receive an Academy Award. His design for the titular alien has been the model that all other aliens in science fiction have been based off since, from the Elites in Halo to the red weeds of Spielberg's War of the Worlds.
